GLOBAL  IMPACT  STUDIES

If you find the truth, will you believe it?

If any man desires to do God's will, he will have the needed illumination to recognize, and can tell for himself whether the teaching is from God or whether I am speaking from myself and on my own accord.  John 7:17

t\The New Year according to the Bible.

A NEW BEGINNING

SPRING--Warm breezes, flowers, green grass, and budding trees. It is a time when everything that has been lying pring – a time of wadormant, slowly transforms into a vibrant, pulsating, living organism. Life lying dormant under a carpet of leaves for months, suddenly breaks forth and pushes its way up into the sunlight above, leaving behind all the lifelessness of the winter. Such is the cycle of life put into place by the Creator of the Universe since the fall of man.

Spring is when Yahuwah Elohim’s Biblical New Year starts; not in the cold dead of winter.  “This month shall be unto you the beginning of months:  it shall be the first month of the year to you” (Exodus 12:2).   This was the time Israel left the land of Egypt just after the Passover was observed.

Much has been changed over the years since Elohim established His Biblical calendar.  Today the calendar most often found hanging from our walls or setting on our desks, is the Gregorian calendar which was modified from the Julian calendar which the Romans used during the time that Yahushua walked on this earth.  The Julian calendar was an eight-day calendar with the names of the days and their order in the week different than what we see today.

The days of the week and the months of the year of the Gregorian calendar are all named after pagan gods and objects.  The Biblical calendar, found in the scriptures, was numbered and over time the months had names attached to them.

The Biblical calendar, as found in the scriptures, is twelve months or thirteen months in length.  Every nineteen years the calendar repeats itself which is called the Metonic cycle.  There are twelve – twelve month years, and seven – thirteen month years within the nineteen years.  To the best of our understanding the first month would begin at the first New Moon (Full Moon) after the spring equinox.  This would be the first day of the first month of the New Year.  To see why we beleive the full moon begins each month see our article "Beginning of the Month" by clicking on the shaded area.

Throughout the Old Testament, time was given in the days of the particular month.  An example of this is found in Genesis 8:4-5.  “And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month . . . And the waters decreased continually until the tenth month, on the first day of the month, were the tops of the mountains seen.”  This type of language is used in approximately 200 different verses throughout the Old Testament.

New Moon days and Sabbaths are referred  to by name but never any other day of the week.

There are either 29 or 30 days in a Biblical month.  They do not always alternate.  There sometimes can be two and even three months in a row that can have either 29 or 30 days in them.  It is how the Creator established time to be measured at the beginning of Creation.  “And Elohim said, Let there be lights in the firmament of heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons [mow'ed - appointed time], and for days, and years” (Genesis 1:14, emphasis added).  The moon was the specific light used to determine the seasons.  "He (Yahuwah) appointed the moon for seasons [mow'ed - appointed times]" (Psalm 104:19).

During the Biblical times a day was measured by a sundial.  “Yahushua answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day?” (John 11:9).  There are always twelve hours in a day according to the measurement using the sundial.

The night was divided into four watches.  “For a thousand years in Thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night” (Psalm 90:4).  “And in the fourth watch of the night Yahushua went unto them, walking on the sea” (Matthew 14:25).

Using the Biblical calendar in today’s modern world presents some problems.  It is an inconvient truth!   Do you think Elohim would have us use His time pieces in determining time in our modern world?  When we use His time pieces, we can discover some pretty amazing things relating to the times in which we are living.  His time pieces (the sun, moon and stars) are always on time and run on His power and never fail us.  Over the coming years we will be hearing much more concerning Elohim’s time pieces and their relation to us living in today’s modern world!  Elohim's time pieces set the times for His meetings with His people referred to as the "feast days."  There are the weekly feast day and the annual feast days which are all determined by the moon (Psalm 104:19, Leviticus 23).
